Magento and Mollie: payments that simply work.
Installing the module is the easy part. Making sure every payment also gets the right order status is the rest.
Short answer
Mollie is a Dutch payment provider through which a Magento shop offers iDEAL, credit card, Bancontact, pay later and other methods. Mollie maintains its own module for Magento 2 for this. Jevana installs and configures it, aligns the order statuses with your bookkeeping and tests the whole path: paying, cancelling, expiry and refunds, also together with Hyvä Checkout.
What setting it up involves
Methods
- Which payment methods per country and per customer group
- Pay later only where the risk allows it
- The order in which they are shown
Order statuses
- What happens to an order that is not paid
- When stock is reserved and released again
- Which status may go to the ERP
Afterwards
- Refunding from the Magento back office
- A payment link for an order agreed outside the shop
- Reconciling payouts with the bookkeeping
The payment that hangs halfway
A customer chooses iDEAL, opens their bank's app and changes their mind. Or the app freezes. Or they pay, but close the window before they are back in the shop.
In all those cases the shop has to know what happened. Mollie tells Magento through a message in the background. If that message does not arrive, because a firewall or a cache blocks it, you get paid orders that stay on 'pending'. When we take over a shop, this is one of the first things we check.
Good to know
- Module
- The official Mollie module for Magento 2, open source and maintained by Mollie itself.
- Costs
- Mollie charges per successful payment. The rates are on Mollie's website.
- Payment data
- Card numbers do not reach your own server. The customer enters them at Mollie.
- Other providers
- If you work with another payment provider, we set that up in the same way.
Questions
Does Mollie work with Magento 2 and Hyvä?
Yes. Mollie supplies its own module for Magento 2, and there is a link for both the Hyvä theme and Hyvä Checkout. The payment methods then appear in the checkout the way the customer expects, with the choice of their bank for iDEAL. After an update to Magento or Hyvä we check the checkout with a test payment.
Which payment methods can I offer through Mollie?
Through Mollie you can offer iDEAL, credit card, Bancontact, PayPal, Apple Pay, bank transfer and several forms of pay later, among others. You decide per country which ones to switch on. For Dutch consumers iDEAL is the most important; for Belgium, Bancontact. The current list of methods and the terms per method are at Mollie.
Why are paid orders sometimes on 'pending'?
Usually because the message from the payment provider does not reach the shop. After each payment Mollie sends a notification to an address in your shop. If a firewall, a maintenance page or a wrongly set cache blocks that address, Magento does not know it was paid. The payment did succeed. It can be fixed, and traced in Mollie's log.
Can we change payment provider without rebuilding the shop?
Yes. In Magento a payment provider is a module, separate from the rest of the shop. Changing means installing, configuring and testing the new module, and switching off the old one once running payments are settled. Subscriptions and stored payment details do not move by themselves; that needs agreement with both providers.
