A WordPress website that stays light.
WordPress is not the problem. Forty plugins and a page builder that loads everything at once, that is the problem.
Short answer
Having a WordPress website built means a builder sets up the system, builds or adapts a theme and fills the site with your content, so you can keep it up to date yourself afterwards. Jevana builds WordPress sites with a light theme of their own and as few plugins as possible, then hosts and maintains them on its own hardware. The site is yours, including all files.
Two ways to build a WordPress site
| Topic | Bought theme with page builder | Theme of its own |
|---|---|---|
| Build time | Short | Longer |
| What the visitor loads | Everything the theme can do, including what you do not use | Only what is on the page |
| Making pages yourself | Free, with the risk of a mess | Within fixed blocks that are always right |
| After three years of updates | Depends on the maker of the theme | Predictable |
| Suits | A site that has to be online fast | A site that has to last for years |
We prefer to build a theme of our own. For a simple site on a small budget, a well-chosen existing theme can be the wiser choice; we say so when it is.

- Fast on a phone, measured
Afterwards
- A walkthrough of the admin
- Hosting and updates with us, if you want that
- All files and the database are yours
When WordPress is not the answer
For a site of five pages that changes twice a year, WordPress is heavier than it needs to be. A static site is then faster, safer and has no updates. Our own website is built that way.
On the other hand, for an online shop with thousands of products and customer-specific prices, WordPress with WooCommerce gets tight. We look at what you need and recommend the system that fits, even if that means the job gets smaller.
Questions
Why build a website in WordPress?
WordPress is the most widely used system for websites, and that has practical advantages: you can change texts and pages yourself without technical knowledge, there is an extension for almost every wish, and you are not tied to one builder. Any web developer can take over a WordPress site. It is a good choice for sites that change regularly.
Custom or an existing theme?
An existing theme is quicker and cheaper to start with, but it loads a lot you do not use and makes you dependent on its maker. A custom theme holds only what your site needs, is faster and lasts longer. For a business that wins customers through its site, custom work usually pays for itself.
How does a WordPress site stay secure?
By keeping it up to date and keeping it small. Most break-ins go through an outdated plugin. So we use as few as possible, only from makers who maintain them, and update them as soon as there is a security update. On top of that: two-step verification for administrators, a daily backup and a login page that is not open to everyone.
Can I keep the website up to date myself afterwards?
Yes, that is what it is made for. You change texts, photos, news items and new pages yourself in the admin. We build the site with fixed blocks, so a new page automatically carries the house style and you cannot break the layout. After delivery you get a short walkthrough and a description to fall back on.
