Moving your hosting without anyone noticing.
First everything exists twice. Only when the copy is right does your domain name point to us.
Short answer
Moving hosting means transferring a website, server or application from one host to another. Jevana copies everything to the new environment, lets you look along on a temporary address and only switches when it works. Visitors notice nothing, because the old environment keeps running until the last visitor arrives at the new one.
A move in five steps
- 01
Inventory
What runs, and what hangs off it: email, background jobs, links, certificates.
- 02
Copy
Files and database go to the new environment. The old one stays untouched.
- 03
Check
You look at the copy on a temporary address. We test forms, payments and logging in.
- 04
Switch
The last changes are brought up to date and the domain name points to the new place.
- 05
Close
The old environment stays for an agreed period. After that you cancel the old contract.
What each kind of move involves
| You are moving | Watch out for |
|---|---|
| A website | Email addresses that sat with the same host are easily forgotten |
| An online shop | Orders during the switch: we plan a short moment when the shop is closed |
| A server at the office | Programs that point to a fixed address on the network |
| An application in a public cloud | Services of that cloud that have no direct counterpart |
| Everything at once | Don't. One part at a time, in an order we agree beforehand |
Why people move
- The host no longer answers questions, or only after days
- The public cloud bill is higher every quarter without anything having changed
- The server at the office is due for replacement and nobody wants to put in a new one
- The web agency stops and the hosting stops with it
Questions
Will my website go down during the move?
No. The site keeps running in the old place while the copy is built and checked with us. At the switch we point the domain name to the new server. For a short while visitors land on the old or the new one, and both work. Only for online shops and sites where visitors enter data do we plan a short moment of maintenance.
Does my email move when the website does?
Only if you want it to. Website and email are technically separate, even if they now sit with the same host. We first find out where your email runs, so it does not stop by accident when the old package is cancelled. After that you choose: come to us, go to Microsoft 365, or stay where it is.
Who cancels the old contract?
You do, and only after everything runs with us and has been checked. We cannot end someone else's contract and would not want to. We do tell you when it is safe, and we watch the notice period, so you do not pay twice for longer than needed and are never left without a safety net.
Can a server at the office move to your hardware?
Yes. We convert the server to a virtual server with us, or build it afresh there if the old installation carries too much baggage. Your office then makes a secure connection to that server, so programs keep working as they did. Files that are only shared often fit better in SharePoint or JevanaFiles.
Can we get out of the public cloud?
Yes. Virtual servers and databases from a public cloud can be moved to our hardware. Harder are the services that only exist at that cloud. For those we find an open source counterpart or leave that part where it is. We work out beforehand what the environment costs per month with us, so you can set it next to your current bill.
