Hyvä: Magento without the dead weight in the browser.

Hyvä is a replacement for the front of Magento 2. It was made by the Dutch company Hyvä Themes and swaps the default Luma theme for a much lighter build with Alpine.js and Tailwind CSS. The back office, the catalogue and the orders stay exactly as they are. Only what the visitor sees and loads is rebuilt.

Yes, since 10 November 2025. Hyvä Theme was released as open source then and no longer costs a licence. Hyvä Checkout, Hyvä UI and Hyvä Commerce are still paid. The current terms are on hyva.io. The cost of moving over is therefore in the build work: the theme, and the modules that need adapting.

Modules that only work in the back end keep running as they are. Modules that show something in the shop, such as a search bar, a review block or a payment method, need a Hyvä version of their front. For the well-known modules that already exists, made by the vendor or the community. For the rest we build it, or choose an alternative.

That differs per shop, which is why we promise no figure. What is certain is that a Hyvä page loads a fraction of the JavaScript that Luma does, and on phones that is the biggest slowdown. We measure before and after on the same pages and devices, so you can see what it did in your shop.

Keep Luma if the shop performs well enough and little will change on the front soon. Switch if speed on mobile disappoints, if every change is expensive or if a redesign is coming anyway. We build new shops on Hyvä by default: there is no longer a reason to start with Luma.

Hyvä UI is a library of ready-made parts, such as menus, product cards and sliders, that you paste into a Hyvä theme and adapt. Hyvä Commerce is a paid package on top of the theme with extras for administration and content. Neither is needed for a good Hyvä shop. They save build time if you use many standard parts.
