Nextcloud support: your own Nextcloud, kept up by someone.
Set up yourself once, three major versions behind since. That can be fixed without starting again.
Short answer
Nextcloud management is keeping a Nextcloud environment up: updates to new versions, backups, storage, apps and the link with accounts. Jevana takes over existing installations, whether they run on a server in the office, a VPS or a NAS, and manages them where they are or moves them to our own hardware. Users, files, shares and calendars are kept.
Installing is an afternoon. Keeping it up is every quarter.
Anyone with a bit of skill can set up Nextcloud themselves. It gets hard at the first big update: Nextcloud releases a new major version a few times a year and you cannot skip any. If you do nothing for two years, you have to take five or six steps in a row, each with its own demands on PHP and the database.
That is where most self-built installations get stuck. It is also the moment when people go looking for help. The data is then almost always fine. It is the road to a supported version that has to be taken with care.
Taking over an existing Nextcloud
- 01
Look
Which version, which apps, how much data, how people sign in and whether there is a backup.
- 02
Secure
A full copy of files and database first. Only then do we touch anything.
- 03
Update
Version by version to the current release, on a copy. Apps that no longer exist get a replacement.
- 04
Move or leave
To our hardware, or managed where it runs now.
- 05
Keep up
Updates, backups and monitoring at a fixed rhythm.

Questions
Can you take over an existing Nextcloud?
Yes. We need admin access to the server and to Nextcloud itself. With that we map what is running and first make a full backup. Then we bring the installation up to a supported version and set up the management. Users notice little, except that the environment is afterwards faster and more current.
How do Nextcloud updates work?
Nextcloud releases a new major version a few times a year, with smaller security updates in between. The small ones we apply at once. A major version we try first on a copy, because third-party apps sometimes lag behind. Then comes the real environment, at a quiet moment and with a fresh backup to hand.
Can our own Nextcloud server come to you?
Yes. We move the files, the database and the configuration to our hardware. Accounts, passwords, shares, calendars and contacts stay as they were. The apps on laptops and phones only need the new address, or no change if the domain name moves too. The old server stays until everything has been checked.
What is Nextcloud Groupware?
Groupware is the collective name for the parts of Nextcloud beside files: mail, calendar, contacts and tasks. Calendars and address books can be shared with colleagues and sync with phones and mail programs through open standards. The mail part is a program for reading mail; the mailbox itself sits on a mail server, with us or elsewhere.

-
Nextcloud Office
Edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations together in the browser, without them leaving your server.
-
How much does Nextcloud cost for a business?
Nextcloud is free software, but not free to run. Where the costs really are: hosting, storage, backups, updates and management.
-
Managed hosting
Your own application hosted and managed: server, database, deployment and monitoring, on our hardware.
-
NAS management
A Synology or other NAS at the office updated, secured and given a backup off the premises.

-
Nextcloud and the GDPR: what do you need to arrange?
Nextcloud does not make you GDPR compliant by itself. What the software covers, what the host covers and what stays with you.
-
Nextcloud vs Dropbox: which should your business choose?
Dropbox does one thing very well: syncing. Nextcloud does more, on a server you choose yourself.
-
Nextcloud vs Google Drive: which suits your organisation?
Google Drive is fast and everywhere. Nextcloud gives you the server back. A comparison on formats, privacy and leaving.
-
Nextcloud vs OneDrive: what is the difference?
Nextcloud and OneDrive both store and sync files. The difference is who runs the server.
